… emotionally searing and energetic … Psallite women’s choir offered fine performances … gaiety, humour and expressive imagery shone forth. IAWM Journal

Psallite women's choir was formed in 1994 by flautist, singer and conductor Nancy Hadden. She has created an impressive and unusual repertoire of early music for women's voices, drawn from music for high voices and also pieces which Nancy has arranged from music originally for mixed choir.

In recent years the choir has added contemperary music to their programmes, hughlighting works by Sally Beamish, Judith Cloud, Jennifer Higdon, Cecilia McDowall, Hilary Tann.

Psallite sings regularly in London and other UK cities; in 2011 they performed 2 concerts in Arizona, USA. In 2015/16 they will collaborate with a Scandinavian choir to sing a newly commissioned work.

Their first CD, 'Ceremonyes of Carolles' was released in 2008. It juxtaposes Benjamin Britten's 'Ceremony of Carols' alongside the melodious, vigorous and mystical Medieval and Renaissance lyrics and music which inspired Britten's settings. In 2014 Psallite released their second CD, Judith Cloud's 'Three Spells', composed especially for Psallite, with motets by Lassus, Victoria, Guerrero and others

JOIN PSALLITE - Do you love singing and want to join a good choir?

PSALLITE women's choir has openings for sopranos and altos with good music-reading ability and voices which blend well in a chamber choir.

We are a chamber choir of 14-16 voices, established in 1994 by director Nancy Hadden. We sing a mix of early music and new works, especially pieces by women composers.

Projects for 2015-16 include concerts at London's South Bank, an exchange tour with a Scandinavian choir, and the premier of a newly commissioned work.

PSALLITE meets on Thursdays, 8-10 pm, in Stoke Newington, N16, with occasional workshop sessions on a Saturday or Sunday to prepare for concerts or to work with a composer.
